About Sheep IQ
Sheep IQ is the national education hub for U.S. sheep producers, a joint effort between the American Lamb Board and the American Sheep Industry Association. The site brings research-based guidance, expert videos, podcasts, management tools, and producer resources together in one place.
The U.S. sheep industry faces a straightforward challenge: demand for American lamb is growing, but imported lamb still accounts for roughly 70% of what’s consumed domestically. Closing that gap starts with productivity. More lambs born, more lambs weaned, more lambs sold per ewe, and more efficient use of the land, labor, and capital producers already have.
Sheep IQ exists to help producers make that happen. The site covers breeding and reproduction, nutrition, animal health, genetics, grazing, lamb and wool quality, and farm operations, with content sourced from university extension specialists, veterinarians, and producers who are doing the work. Whether you run 50 ewes or 5,000, the goal is the same: practical tools you can apply to your operation this season.
There is no other national hub like this for sheep education. Sheep IQ was built to fill that gap and to give the industry’s best research and field-tested practices a permanent home where producers can find them, use them, and come back for more.

The American Lamb Board
The American Lamb Board is the national lamb checkoff program, established in 2002 and funded by the U.S. sheep industry. Its mission is to build demand for American lamb while strengthening the long term competitiveness of domestic sheep production.
In addition to consumer promotion, the American Lamb Board invests in research and producer education that supports productivity, profitability, and sustainability. Sheep IQ is part of that commitment, helping ensure the U.S. sheep industry can meet growing demand with a strong, resilient domestic supply.
American Sheep Industry Association
The American Sheep Industry Association represents sheep producers, lamb feeders, and industry partners across the United States. With roots dating back to 1865, ASI is the nation’s oldest livestock organization and serves as the voice of the sheep industry in policy, research, and education.
ASI supports producers through advocacy, knowledge based insights, and a wide range of technical resources. As a collaborator on Sheep IQ, ASI helps ensure producers and educators have access to trusted tools, research, and connections that improve management and advance the industry.
